Gaborik to free agency, the Minnesota Wild made a big splash by coming to
terms with right wing Martin Havlat on a six-year contract.
The Minneapolis Star-Tribune reports the deal is worth $30 million, which is
the richest total contract in team history.
The first day of free agency saw Gaborik, who had spent his entire seven-year
career with the Wild, go to the New York Rangers in a five-year package.
The Wild then signed the 28-year-old Havlat away from the Blackhawks. Last
season, he led Chicago with a career-high 77 points (29 goals, 48 assists),
while skating in a career-best 81 games.
"We are excited to add the speed and scoring of Martin Havlat to our lineup,"
said Wild general manager Chuck Fletcher. "He is a terrific two-way player."
The 6-foot-2 native of Mlada Boleslav, Czech Republic, has recorded 169 goals
and 227 assists in eight seasons with Ottawa and Chicago.
